Lake Eyre in Bloom

One of the highlights of 2016 for me was my trip to Lake Eyre.  I attended a Julie Fletcher photography workshop at Marree and surrounds. If you ever get a chance to go on one, do yourself the favour!

Getting There

In March 2016, I left from Brisbane with my partner Nat, my beloved motorhome 'Moby' and a bucketful of excitement. The plan was to start off with the workshop in Lake Eyre and then Northern Territory and Western Australia.

We took 2 weeks to meander our way across to Maree and stopped over at:

  • Scenic Rim QLD
  • Girraween NP QLD (one of our faves)
  • Warrumbungle NP NSW
  • Broken Hill & Silverton NSW
  • Flinders Ranges SA
  • Maree SA (where the real adventures began).

Lake Eyre

We were spoilt with 3 days and 3 nights of access to places at Lake Eyre and surrounds not usually open to the public.  A 3 hour flight was included and I was lucky enough to see all the colours and textures from above.  We were lucky that there was a fair bit of water around at the time which made it all the more spectacular.

I hate to fly and for me to go up in a tiny, tiny plane filled me with terror.  I was comforted by my lovely companions and was able to squeeze into the tiny aircraft without much ado.  Once up in the air I totally forgot about my fear of flying as the scenery below took my breath away.

I saw patches of amazing pink from the bacteria, blues and greens of the water, browns from the sand and little black and white specs of the birds below.

The whole experience is etched firmly in my memory and I can't wait for a chance to do it again.

I hope the photos give you a little glimpse into what I saw during my adventure.
